What is VIATeC?

The Victoria Advanced Technology Council (VIATeC) is the conduit that connects people, knowledge and resources to grow a successful technology sector in Greater Victoria.

The organization was founded in 1989 to promote and enhance the development of the local advanced technology industry. With only a handful of known technology companies, the ambitious mandate to facilitate the development of our region as a global centre of excellence for advanced technology was set.

The Greater Victoria tech sector has grown to over 800 known technology companies, employing more than 13,000 people and generating in excess of $1.95 billion in annual revenues with an economic impact of $2.65 billion, making advanced technology Greater Victoria's #1 private industry.

Most recently VIATeC has been blanketing the city with messaging about our diverse economy, and the career and investment opportunities within it with the “Tectoria” branding campaign.

VIATeC is intended to be the first place that people contact for information or assistance related to advanced technology in Greater Victoria. VIATeC's membership, which currently stands at over 375 annually, elects VIATeC's Board of Directors, which in turn provides guidance to the Executive Director.

Focus Areas:

Sector Information and Promotion
Serve as the definitive source of information on the local technology sector and the companies within it and be the driving force to promote the accomplishments of the Greater Victoria technology sector and the opportunities within it.

Talent
Raise awareness of the career opportunities available within local technology companies by targeting experienced workers and recent graduates while also promoting technology careers and innovation students.

Networking and Connections
Offer top quality networking and community building opportunities by connecting members through events and introductions along with topic specific information as requested.

Education and Mentoring
Provide timely, valuable information through seminars and connect interested members with experienced, volunteer mentors and advisors.
