Royal Roads University
Royal Roads University is distinct among Canadian institutions for its academic programs and educational philosophy, as well as its unparalleled setting and history. With a mandate to provide continuous learning opportunities for people in the workplace, RRU focuses on developing professionals who can prosper and contribute meaningfully in a complex, dynamic world.
Royal Roads is the only public university in Canada to exclusively offer applied and professional programs. Many programs are at the master’s degree level, although the university also offers undergraduate completion degrees (equivalent to years three and four). By using an intensive full-year academic cycle, master’s degrees at RRU are completed in approximately two years, while undergraduate programs may be completed through an extensive and accelerated 12-month, on-campus format or through two years of study. RRU also offers a broad selection of customized and executive development programs.
Most programs at RRU are offered through a combination of Internet-based distance learning and short on-campus residencies. This balances the practical realities of learners to meet family and work requirements while fostering collaborative, progressive and shared learning – on and off campus. In addition to campus-based and distance programs, RRU delivers programs internationally, providing access to top quality Canadian education within learners’ communities abroad.
The Royal Roads campus is located on a magnificent 227-hectare oceanfront setting 20 minutes from downtown Victoria. The campus buildings reflect RRU’s past, first as a private estate and then as a military officers’ training college until 1995. Among them is the distinctive Hatley Castle, a heritage building surrounded by expansive gardens with spectacular views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Campus facilities include administrative buildings, student residences, a recreation centre, food services, and ample parking.
