Job Summary: 

Royal Roads is seeking a fast-learning LAMP system administrator/web developer with experience supporting and developing web applications. You must be proficient in current and emerging web-based technologies to include, but not limited to; Java, PHP, XML, AJAX, etc. You must also have familiarity with SQL compliant database platforms, web servers, app servers, and operating systems especially LAMP environments. Familiarity with content management systems ("CMS") including Drupal is important.

 

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to: Maintaining and support existing systems and websites, and realizing it is just as important and challenging as building new apps; configuring, implementing and maintaining third-party web and internet-enabled services and applications; developing and maintaining technologies and services related to the operation of web-enabled services; configuring, customizing, and integrating open source software (OSS); maintaining an internal version control system; providing timely customer service and respond to high-priority requests using an internal work-order system; and, recommending and adhering to web and application development standards.
 

Key Competencies: 
Demonstrated knowledge and experience maintaining LAMP hosting environments
General knowledge of networks, servers and dependencies
Demonstrated experience with databases and Structured Query Language (SQL)
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with basic web technologies and techniques including XHTML, XML, CSS, cross-browser compatibility and web standards
Proven experience in programming/scripting in a web-based environment (PHP, ASP.net, JavaScript, Perl, etc.)
Demonstrated User-Centred Design Experience using Content Management Systems (CMS)
Demonstrated experience with iterative application development including agile development methodologies
Proven ability to work well independently as well as part of a team
Education and Experience: 
Must have a degree or diploma in Computer Science
Related work experience is preferred

These are two regular full-time positions working 37.5 hours per week. These positions have been evaluated at Grade 3 and the recruitment range is $41,200 to $51,500 per annum. The University is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefits package.
