9 Tech Teams have registered for the 2010 Victoria Canary Derby— Are you on the list?
The BC technology community has challenged companies to fight back against cancer by either entering a team or sponsoring the 2010 Canary Derby and so far 15 companies have responded.
Teams currently registered for the Saturday, June 12th event at the Vancouver Island Technology Park include: GenoLogics, Aquatic Informatics, Carmanah Technologies, Vifor Pharma, Vancouver Island Technology Park, Camosun College, Schneider Electric, JASCO Applied Sciences, and BC Cancer Agency.
Investors Group, Schneider Electric, Boardwalk Communications, Telus, Fasken Martineau, and PriceWaterhouseCoopers have also stepped up to the challenge through corporate sponsorship support for this yearʼs derby and CHEK TV is providing media support.
Michael Ball, CEO of GenoLogics, says thereʼs still time to add your company to the list and help put the brakes on cancer. Join the race, sponsor the event, make a donation or volunteer for race day by going to the Canary Derby website or sending an e-mail to victoriaderby@canaryfoundation.org.
Canary Foundation and Canary Foundation of Canada are non-profit organizations dedicated to discovering highly sensitive and specific markers of early stage cancer and building tests for these markers. The goal is to identify cancer through a simple blood test, isolate the disease through imaging scans, and then to intervene early enough to dramatically increase the chance of a full recovery with minimal side effects. Canaryʼs collaborative research programs span multiple disciplines and institutions, including research conducted in British Columbia.
Canaryʼs annual Canary Derby helps fund that research by bringing together the technology and business communities of Victoria and Vancouver, Canary Foundation of Canada, and BC Cancer Foundation to help support early detection cancer research. The cars are built by corporate or private teams and are unpowered, relying completely upon gravity and team ingenuity. Established in 2006, the Canary Derbies have raised $657,000 to date with the funds remaining in British Columbia.
Join the Derby for team building and community engagement, or have your companyʼs summer picnic at the event. For more information on the Derby, please visit: www.canaryfoundation.org/canaryderby or contact Pat McCowan at (206) 660-0439.
