ISIS First to Receive Highest Honours from College of Family Physicians of Canada
Victoria, B.C., May 17, 2010 — Simation is pleased to announce that ISIS, the Insulin Simulation Instructional System, has received formal approval from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) for up to 16 Mainpro-C credits. Members of the American Academy of Family Physicians are eligible to receive 16 Prescribed credits for participation in this activity due to the reciprocal agreement with the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
Bernard Marlow, Director of Continuing Professional Development for the College, stated “In the future, simulation will be an important component of every physician’s continuing professional development as it allows practise in a non-threatening environment with feedback on performance and both formative and summative evaluation.” While ISIS had originally received accreditation from the College for Mainpro-M1 credits in December, 2009, it was recognized that ISIS provides a patient-based learning environment that leads to critical thinking, increased knowledge and better retention than other educational products.
After reviewing their policy with respect to the learning value associated with online simulations, the College decided to revisit the accreditation given to ISIS and increased the level of accreditation to the highest possible, allowing physicians to earn 16 Mainpro-C credits for completing the 16 insulin cases in ISIS.
ISIS is an educational tool that empowers front-line physicians while improving the care their diabetic patients receive. Learners assess their own abilities while working through various lifelike cases in their own time, at their own pace and are connected with other learners to share their thoughts and experiences. ISIS brings incredible realism to online training. Through the active learning simulation, ISIS physicians learn how to better manage their diabetic patients. Using ISIS, they become better practiced at treating diabetics, ultimately referring fewer patients to specialists. A wide range of medical doctors and nurses who need to work with diabetics in their day to day activities are able to access the program at www.ManageYourInsulin.com.
