Tech Sector’s Second Annual ‘VIATeC Bike to Work Week Challenge’ Winners Named

Date:
June 9, 2010

196 employees of 14 Victoria tech companies rode 14,942 km's between May 31 and June 4, 2010.

NRC grabbed first place in the ‘Most KM Per Company’ Category for the second year in a row, with employees riding 2489 km in 5 days. This is even more impressive when we look at the huge hill the cyclists had to climb every morning! Advanced Solutions came in a close second with 2443 km and Sierra Systems grabbed third place by riding 1325 km. Congratulations to all!

ImmunoPrecise places first in the ‘Most KM per Employee’ Category with 36.07 km per employee; the winning number was calculated by dividing the total KMs ridden by company employees by the total number of employees; second place goes to NRC with 34.57 km per employee and third to Archipelago with 25.60 km per employee. Great effort, riders!

This year NRC and ImmunoPrecise will share the VIATeC ‘Half Full’ Cup, a trophy awarded to Victoria Technology companies who win a challenge among their fellow technology companies in support of a good cause.

A huge THANK YOU to Chris Clarke of Archipelago for time spent coordinating the Challenge this year.

By riding to work for one week, employees in Victoria’s tech sector reduced carbon emissions (CO2) by a total of 2.82 tonnes; this reduction in greenhouse gases is the equivalent to planting 395 trees.
