Carmanah Goes Waste Free

Date:
July 8, 2010

Carmanah Technologies Corp. Goes Waste Free.

Implementing an extensive recycling and composting program has allowed Carmanah to dramatically reduce the amount of waste they  send to the Hartland landfill. All large waste bins have been replaced with mini bins for items that can’t be recycled or composted, such as tape. Lunchrooms now have all the bins required to reduce waste (ie. composting, soft plastics and tetrapack recycling, bottles and cans) and space has been designated to store the recycling prior to vendor pick up.

Going waste free wasn't difficult for the 120 employees at Carmanah.  Once the system was designed and bins were in place, only an hour or two a week is now required for maintenance. This time is more than offset by the 25% reduction in the cost of the old waste disposal system…and the diversion from the Hartland landfill is priceless.
