Free Engineering Assistance for VIATeC Members Through UVic
The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Victoria has offered a Mechatronics and Embedded Systems Design Course for several years and they are currently looking for industry projects for their students. Participating industries would need to sponsor the cost of materials required for prototype development, but there is no charge for labour.
The class is taught by Dr. Daniela Constantinescu. Her research is in robotic systems for physical interaction with humans, and their applications to rehabilitation, and to force feedback in remote and virtual environments. Electronic support is through Ian Soutar who works for the University of Victoria and has been involved with the Victoria Advanced Technology Council (VIATeC).
The projects are carried out by teams of three to five students in their fourth year of Engineering Studies. Historically, the students enrolled in ENGR 466 are the best students in the faculty, and several graduated on the Dean’s List. The students in each team are selected to provide an appropriate balance of skills. In 2008 the ENGR466 products won two of the four top prizes in the Engineering Dept. project evaluations.
To participate in this project, please fill out this form and send to danielac@engr.uvic.ca and soutar@uvic.ca by Friday, April 8th.
The next Mechatronics and Embedded Systems Project class is offered May - July 2011. There are only two weeks to research your project before the next group of class projects start.
