Victoria, BC – June 3, 2011 – Over 500 Tectorians gathered at last night’s VIATeC Technology Awards at the Victoria Conference Centre to applaud the technology community's success for making Greater Victoria a leader in advanced technology in Canada.

Now in it's tenth year, the awards went BIG and ran a late night themed show with props, gadgets and cameo appearances such as Marty the Marmot. The night was filled with entertaining commentary, videos, live music and a giant Flash Mob/ Lip Dub extravaganza at the end of the night, which included 100 inflated Orcas!

Not only was the tech community giving out recognition, but they were also celebrating the re-branding of Victoria, to “Tectoria”. Tectoria is now advertised at the Victoria International Airport, having 50% of the baggage claim backlit advertisements, and is now online at www.welcometotectoria.ca.

About VIATeC
The Victoria Advanced Technology Council (VIATeC) is the conduit that connects people, knowledge and resources to grow a successful technology sector in Greater Victoria.

Since VIATeC's inception way back in 1989, the Greater Victoria tech sector has grown to over 800 known technology companies, employing more than 13,000 people and generating in excess of $1.95 billion in annual revenues with an economic impact of $2.65 billion. That's bigger than the revenues generated by the entire NHL and explains why the advanced technology is Greater Victoria's #1 private industry.

VIATeC is intended to be the first place that people contact for information or assistance related to advanced technology in Greater Victoria. VIATeC's membership, which currently stands at over 350 annually, elects VIATeC's Board of Directors, which in turn provides guidance to the Executive Director. www.viatec.ca

About VIATeC Technology Awards
The Technology Awards celebrate the achievements of technology companies responsible for making Greater Victoria the fastest growing technology region in British Columbia.

The awards recognize individuals, companies and employers behind all of the hard work in the technology industry. They are given the opportunity to stand out in front of their peers for their great accomplishments achieved throughout the year. Finalists and recipients will be recognized in front of over five hundred executives, senior decision makers, government representatives and the media at the awards gala scheduled this year on June 2nd.

This event is a great opportunity to network with industry pioneers, while applauding the technology community's success for making Greater Victoria a leader in advanced technology in Canada. www.viatecawards.com
