Island Labs is now offering in-house seminars on PCB design for EMC Compliance. These seminars are offered in-house for firms that are looking to optimize their design processes.

A typical seminar includes a full overview of several specific tests performed at an EMC laboratory, which establishes a framework for discussing important implications for PCB design techniques. Island Labs can also undertake a comprehensive review of a product and use it as a case study within the seminar.

Island Labs owner Andy Eadie said, “When electromagnetic compliance is critical to your business or to your clients' business, you need to incorporate design for compliance from the outset of every project.”

Island Labs aims to differentiate itself by offering a mix of both expert test and hardware design experience. "If we can save a company even one day in an EMC laboratory, then the cost of the design review is justified. The more likely scenario when a company fails EMC testing is that the circuit board will need to be re-engineered and re-manufactured. It will increase the time to market as well as increase manufacturing and testing costs. Assisting companies to design products with EMC performance in mind aligns with our aim of saving our customers time and money on EMC testing. We encourage our clients to leverage our hardware design expertise if they require it. Clients who opted for our pro-active design review have a 100% success rate so far in passing radiated emissions tests which is a key aspect of proving FCC compliance."

Trevor Moat, project manager and electronics engineer at Starfish Medical commented, "We found the seminar and review offered by Island Labs to be very informative for our growing talent pool and consistent with our commitment to continuous improvement". Companies throughout the lower mainland area have shown interest in these seminars, mainly due to the potential cost and time savings it offers.

Island Labs was founded in July 2010 and is Vancouver Island's only EMC test laboratory. It has already attracted several Victoria based customers as well as companies from Vancouver, Quebec and Nova Scotia.

Island Labs staff are available to undertake similar on-site seminars and PCB EMC design reviews. Please contact Andy Eadie for more information.
