Victoria Tech Community Shows How to Give Back with Passion!
Victoria, BC – December 12, 2011: The 9th Annual 2011 VIATeC Food Bank Challenge concluded on Friday, November 25th, with Greater Victoria Technology companies donating $91,597.89 in cash and 4264 pounds of food to the Mustard Seed Food Bank.
The total value of the cash and food donation has rounded up to $193,855.78 – beating last year’s record of $167,070 making this year the best so far!
VIATeC would like to congratulate the participating companies for their efforts and willingness to give back to the community in a fun way while remaining competitive. By this year's donation value of $193,855.78, the Greater Victoria technology companies have now donated a total value of $1,447,578.78 since the beginning of the Food Bank Challenge nine years ago!
32 VIATeC member companies representing over 1400 employees participated in the 9th Annual 2011 VIATeC Food Bank Challenge to compete against each other in order to raise food and cash for those in need. Companies fiercely competed to see who could donate the most overall and per employee, and received points for food and cash donations each week.
The participating companies came up with unique and creative ways to raise money. This includes team competitions, BBQs, silent auctions, hosted breakfasts, gift basket silent auctions, casino night, poker tourneys, pie your peers, cake walk, and the very popular 4th Annual Harbour Hop which alone raised $13,500 in cash.
Winners of the 2011 Food Bank Challenge were recognized on December 8th at VIATeC's Discover Tectoria VIP Reception.
