Mitacs Business Strategy Internship - $10,000 Award Unites Business Operators and Business Students

In a business environment disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Canadian businesses are being challenged as never before. Where will growth come from? Do you have all the resources you need? How do you respond to a changing marketplace?

In partnership with participating Canadian business schools, Mitacs is launching a new initiative to support Canada’s small and medium enterprises and not-for-profit organizations. Partners will receive the support of undergraduate and graduate students to tackle a four-month project to help the organization with its business operations as the economic recovery begins.

What You Need to Know

  • $10K for a four-month project: you contribute only $2,500
  • Apply any time for multiple projects (only one intern per project)
  • Internships must begin before August 31, 2020
  • Available only to small and medium enterprises (less than 500 employees)

Program Details

  • The Mitacs Awards will provide a grant of $10K per student. The organization partner contributes only $2,500. Projects will be designed to address one or more business strategy
  • components (such as marketing, operations, finance etc.)
  • Each project requires oversight from a supervisor at the partner organization and an academic supervisor.
  • Students are expected to meet weekly with their supervisors to report on the progress of their project. Virtual meetings are
  • acceptable.
  • Both students and supervisors are required to complete an exit survey at the end of the project reporting on skills developed
  • and providing feedback on the project experience.
  • Projects must be reviewed by the academic institution prior to submission to Mitacs.
  • Projects submitted to Mitacs will be evaluated internally to confirm eligibility.
  • Students must complete a final report summarizing their work to their academic supervisor.
  • Supplemental online training will be provided to student through the Mitacs learning management system, EDGE.
