Winners Revealed for 2015 VIATEC Food Bank Challenge

Carmanah Technologies sweeps both categories with an overall $16,305.72 contribution. Challenge brings in a total of $128,320.88 for the Mustard Seed.

VICTORIA, BC - December 11, 2015 - Participants of the 2015 VIATEC Food Bank Challenge in support of the Mustard Seed gathered at last night’s VIATEC Christmas Party in Centennial Square as winners were revealed. The gathering under the big top tent drew out over 300 guests that were entertained by Ferris Wheel rides, live music from Astrocolor, pictures with Santa inside an inflatable igloo, food trucks, local craft brews and wine, and hot cocoa.

Carmanah Technologies won first place in both categories: Greatest Overall Contributor and Greatest Per-Employee Contributor. Having received second place by just $300 during the last challenge, they were determined to come in on top!

The 13th Annual VIATEC Food Bank Challenge was a very exciting and eventful one. A total of $73,885.12 in cash and 1000lbs of food (worth $2800) was raised in 4 short weeks from November 9th to December 4th, bringing the final 2015 total to a whopping $128,320.88 ($47,135.76 in cash + $4500 in food was raised in February).


With the Mustard Seed’s buying power, the cash donation amount doubles to $242,041.76. Since its inception, the VIATEC Food Bank Challenge has raised a total of $1,981,296.84.


“It's the amazing local tech companies that raised all of this cash,” commented Dan Gunn, VIATEC’s CEO. “VIATEC just gave them ways to keep score and cheered them on!”

VIATEC (Victoria Innovation, Advanced Technology and Entrepreneurship Council), started in 1989. Our mission is to serve as the one-stop hub that connects people, knowledge and resources to grow and promote the Greater Victoria technology sector (Victoria's biggest industry).


We work closely with our members to offer a variety of events, programs and services. In addition, VIATEC serves as the front door of the local tech sector and as its spokesperson. To better support local innovators, we recently acquired our own building (Fort Tectoria) where we offer flexible and affordable office space to emerging local companies along with a gathering/event space for local entrepreneurs.
