For the past 9 years, Matt Brown has served as Senior Vice-President, People and Culture at Credential Financial Inc. Matt’s mission has been to create a highly engaging environment that attracts and retains top talent from across the country. Matt’s focus on building HR programs that reinforce Credential’s values of Partnership, Innovation and Community was a key enabler to ensuring that Credential’s culture embodied continuous improvement and customer-centric thinking.
As a member of the senior executive team, Matt’s expertise contributed to Credential growing assets under administration fourfold and taking the business from being unprofitable to one of the leading independent investment dealers in Canada - consistently outperforming industry growth rates. Over the course of 2017-18, Matt was part of the team that architected and executed on the $900 million deal to merge Credential, Qtrade and NEI, creating Aviso Wealth, one of Canada’s largest independent wealth management firms. Matt will be leaving this new organization at the end of September 2018.
Prior to Credential, Matt spent 11 years in the high-tech sector with Crystal Decisions, Business Objects, and SAP. During this time, he held a diverse range of roles including Senior Director of HR for Asia Pacific, Vice President, Global Recruiting and Talent Management, and Vice-President, North American HR.
Matt currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Sanford Housing Foundation — an organization dedicated to building and operating affordable social housing in Vancouver. Matt and his wife have 3 daughters and he is an avid triathlete, completing Ironman Canada in 2013.

Scott is CEO and founder of RaceRocks 3D, a diverse and gender balanced Victoria based company that now has offices in Vancouver. The RaceRocks team develops technology-enabled learning, and data analytic solutions for the aerospace and defence sector.

Akzhana, at the core, is a technology and science enthusiast. She thrives on being thrown in the deep end and expected to figure out how to swim. Her love of technological advancement has led her to moving across the globe at the age of 17 to Canada to start pursuing her personal and career goals.
In 2017 she graduated from the University of Victoria and is currently working as a Hardware Engineer at Forest Technology Systems by helping the company in creating reliable weather monitoring systems for our customers. Akzhana has proven to be a positive and helpful team member with a "get-it-done" mentality. She has an incredible self-discipline and determination, she values personal growth and development, reliability, and trustworthiness. She is always responsive, reliable,an easy-going bundle of energy and is always willing to go an extra mile.

Owen Matthews is a successful technology entrepreneur and investor. He is a General Partner at Wesley Clover, a 46 year old venture capital firm that has founded and funded over 100 companies and which spends more than $20M annually on research and development into innovative technologies.
Owen himself has founded over 11 companies which have generated $175M in value for shareholders and driven $40M in annual sales. Owen’s current board positions include: Counterpath, SaaSquatch, HYAS, Tutela, Pretio, Echosec, Encepta, Quantotech, and Talkative.
Owen founded and chairs the Alacrity Foundation to support entrepreneurs and technology companies in Western Canada. Alacrity has established companies that have employed more than 200 people and have had a direct economic impact of $300 million in Western Canada. The foundation has also helped bring over $225 million dollars into the western Canadian technology ecosystem.
Owen is an active and charitable contributor in the community. He is a Governor on the Board of Power to Be, a non-profit organization that empowers people to explore their limitless abilities through inclusive adventures rooted in nature. He is a Board member of the Children’s Health Foundation of Vancouver Island. He is also active on the board of advisors for the Peter B. Gregg Meiklejohn along with co-founder Shane Sparks started Enrollment Resources in 2003. The company has grown consistently by reinvesting profit to where it sits now, as a profitable SaaS company employing more than 20 staff.
Gregg led his company to become the first B Corp on the Island and the first of its kind globally, 7 years ago. The past 4 years Enrollment Resources have been awarded Best for the World award for Employee Engagement and Places to Work. The companies GlassDoor rating is 4.9/5. Under partner Shane Sparks leadership, ER has now been awarded Premier Partner status with Google.
Gregg has three kids and two step kids and is married to Cindy. Gregg is a mediocre golfer and is into Soccer and Outrigger Canoe Paddling. Gregg loves dogs but somehow finds himself sharing home with two cats (WTF!). Gregg has a dry, quirky sense of humor. If asked, Gregg would find it to be an honour to be a policy Volunteer for Dan and his team at VIATEC.
Director of IT and Services, Monk Office
Adrian is a dedicated, loyal and driven individual with years of IT, leadership and sales experience.
Currently Adrian is working with a locally owned and operated business called Monk Office. At Monk Adrian is responsible for the IT department as well as the Monk Office Technology service department. Working with a team of others at Monk, Adrian leads the charge in the implementation of a new ERP, point of sale and eCommerce platform.
During his time with Carmanah, Adrian oversaw a migration from Oracle E-Business Suite to Sage 300 ERP as well as migration from Salesforce.com to SageCRM. Adrian has also set up two new offices in Toronto Ontario and Stuart Florida for Carmanah.
More recently Adrian has spoken at the Sage Summit in Chicago Illinois. Sage Summit is a premier small business conference put on by Sage software. Adrian spoke on the topics of successful implementation of ERP and CRM. Further, Adrian was a speaker at the Sage Sessions conference held in Vancouver, BC in 2016.
Adrian worked for Smart Dolphins for 11 years working his way up from an entry level field technician, to senior solutions developer and Vice President. Adrian’s primary role was to provide ongoing consulting services to Smart Dolphins clients, plan implementations, quote out software, hardware and service. Adrian was also a part of the Leadership Team that helped define the strategy for the company. Adrian won the Employee of the Year award through the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce Awards in 2006.

George Philip joined his business partner, Praveen as a Co-Founder of AOT Technologies about six years ago. With the help of the VIATEC community, AOT is becoming a thriving local business employing about 22 people in BC and working with Government and several large technology firm projects in Victoria.
George has lived and worked in India and in Florida before settling in Victoria. He has worked for large companies such as Flextronics and Verizon, as well as start-ups.
George is passionate about giving back to his community and is very interested in leveraging technology to implement philanthropic projects. One special interest of George is in finding projects that can multiply the impact of the original giving like providing technical education to help people get back to workforce. In the last 15 years, George has been involved with various social responsibility projects and initiatives like supporting food banks, providing technology support for non-profits, disaster relief efforts, and several fundraising projects.
He hopes to bring his experience and his interest in philanthropic projects to the VIATEC board. He hopes to be a part of the board and the VIATEC Foundation so that he can leverage the VIATEC network to help provide solutions to the pressing challenges of the community as it relates to the local technology sector.
Principal - Private Equity, BCI
Ashton Scordo is a Principal in the BCI Private Equity team and is focused on the Technology, Media and Telecommunication sector. Prior to joining BCI, Ashton spent six years with Deloitte Corporate Finance Inc. in Vancouver, primarily advising on mid-market private company transactions. Ashton helped lead the most recent technology payments deal, Verifone, on behalf of the Private Equity team. Ashton holds the designation CPA-CA, and has a Masters in Finance post graduate degree from the University of Saskatchewan. Ashton completed a B.A. from the University of Victoria, majoring in Political Science.
Erin's (healthy) obsession with creating content that improves the world led her to the role as Co-Founder/COO at FamilySparks with co-founders Dr. Jillian Roberts, Rasool Rayani and Hannes Blum. She believes deeply in the transformative power of social entrepreneurship and technology to transform business and people’s lives – both locally and worldwide.
She is an advocate for diversity, inclusion and equity in our sector. Since transitioning from producing TV documentaries, she has been warmly welcomed into and mentored by our industry. Now she is committed to meaningfully supporting and creating space for others to be seen, heard and involved in all areas of tech.
Erin’s work experience has included producing TV for nearly every broadcaster in Canada – her role including everything from pitching to broadcasters to delivering the project on time and on budget. Her work in TV and in the tech sector involves collaborative skills including leading a team, organizational skills including project management, content marketing skills including blogs and social media and public speaking skills including hosting the 2018 VIATEC Awards. She’s basically a Swiss army knife of unexpected talents and skills.

COO, Forge Experience Design
Shelley has spent her career bringing innovative digital products to market from small, nimble start-ups to multi-nationals, Nokia and Vivendi Universal. As the COO of a new market research and product design firm, Forge Experience Design, she’s helping to apply UX and CX thinking to product conception, design and go-to-market strategies for Victoria companies and beyond. She’s also an Executive in Residence with VIATEC helping coach new entrepreneurs based on her own start-up experiences.
Throughout her career, Shelley has contributed to the growth of many new businesses - and not just start-ups. As employee number four, she helped grow Nokia’s mobile gaming hardware and software division to a multi-billion-dollar revenue source, and she helped build Vivendi Universal’s first efforts into massively multiplayer online gaming. She’s negotiated numerous first-revenue agreements including a David vs. Goliath partnership with HTC for Cloudhead Games, and helped to bring Brainium, an edtech start-up to North American schools. She’s also founded her own tech start-up Zuzee - a robust web and mobile creativity platform that captured the hearts and minds of tween girls in over 80 countries, winning multiple awards.
Today, Shelley’s focus is on helping to build the local Victoria technology community where she raises her two technology-minded children with her husband and business partner. She is truly inspired by the talent, passion, and potential of the city’s entrepreneurs.
Brad Williams is a fractional executive (mostly CFO, but also COO/President), who has worked with a wide variety of companies and industries over the last 20+ years. During this time Brad has been involved in raising well over $100M in capital into companies (debt and equity), and played the key finance role in 10+ sell side transactions (+$450M). His sweet spot is being involved in any company that is going through a significant time of growth and/or transition and is disproportionately excited about building models, doing strategic cohort analysis or running the "One Page Plan" (strategic planning/operating process) in…. Excel! Brad is also actively involved in the advisory and mentoring communities that are regularly engaged with people and companies at all stages. He Co-Founded and was employee number one at RingPartner, a pay per call exchange. Mike helped launch the company, grow revenues and build the team as RingPartner became an industry leader in pay per call marketing. Prior to RingPartner Mike founded and managed a pay per click agency, Clickworks Marketing and he also Co-Founded Qwik Media, an Affiliate Network, and grew revenues into the millions over 2 years. Prior to that Mike held various roles at Neverblue, now Global Wide Media, in search marketing, email marketing and web property management.
