You are invited to an information afternoon about FIRST Robotics and how a school might go about putting together a team for FTC.

FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) is one part of the FIRST Robotics organization. FTC high school teams design, build, and program robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams.
The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and is programmed in Java using Android phones to control the robots. The goal of this meeting is to inform students and teachers/adult mentors who are interested in learning more about this organization and what starting a team could be like. Currently, there is one FTC team on Vancouver Island who travels out of province and often out of country just to compete. If the Greater Victoria area had several teams, local competition would be possible, and fund raising and sponsorship could be shared as a whole league, rather than just individual teams doing it all for themselves.
Christine Nicholls, coach and mentor for the FTC 3491 Team in Colwood, and her team have kindly offered to share their experiences with you, including a demonstration of their current competition robot.
FORMAT: Short presentation with Q & A (drop-in OK too) and informal discussion
PLACE: Pacific School of Innovation and Inquiry (100-808 Douglas St., Victoria BC)
RSVP: Let us know if you're planning to attend. Drop-ins are welcome.
Please forward this invitation to teachers, might be interested.
