StartupSlam 2017 Offers Participants Hands-on Skills and Networking Opportunities

    When: Saturday, September 30, 2017 - 8:00am to 4:30pm

What: StartupSlam is Vancouver Island’s largest tech conference. Workshops are hands-on and offer participants the chance to learn new skills and ask questions of the experts that use them every day. StartupSlam 2017 will feature 12 workshops that fall into 4 tracks: Intro to Tech, Advanced Tech, Design, and Entrepreneurship. Look out for talks on everything from CSS3 to design tips for non-designers to a practical guide on how to build a startup. The full schedule is available on our website at https://www.startupslam.io/

New this year, is Talk to an Expert - offering attendees the chance to talk with an expert one-on-one about founding a startup, early career development, and startup legal.

History: Sendwithus created StartupSlam to showcase Victoria’s burgeoning tech sector and provide insightful and informative workshops to young professionals. With 3 other local tech companies, Sendwithus rented a room at the University of Victoria and gave talks on everything from security networks to game mechanics to a crowd of 60 people. Fast forward to 2016, StartupSlam saw an amazing turnout of over 350 attendees! StartupSlam 2017 has a confirmed registration of 525 attendees as of Sept 26, 2017.

Why: StartupSlam stemmed from the gap between the skills students learn in the classroom and the skills and technologies being used by local tech companies. We also aim to inspire the next generation of startup founders to think big and contribute to Victoria’s growing tech sector.

Where: University of Victoria, ECS building first floor

Who: With just 3 days to go, over 525 students and professionals have registered to join us for StartupSlam 2017! Registration is free and will remain open until 2:00pm on Friday, September 29th.
