In response to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Innovate BC is pleased to offer the Digital Economy: Rapid Response + Resiliency (DER3) Program to support small-medium sized businesses, in any sector, enter or expand in the digital economy. The program will be available in six regions throughout the province.

Recruitment Support

Finding the right skilled talent is key to the success of any company and we're dedicated to helping our members achieve this as efficiently as possible. This is a challenge around the world but we have a few tricks up our sleeve. VIATEC Venture Program

When our members are really focused on a particular topic or practice, VIATEC is happy to work with them:



VIATEC offers a free Business Coaching Service to support regional innovators, business owners and entrepreneurs in knowledge-based industries via GoToMeetings, email and telephone. You're the perfect candidate if you need assistance with:

  • Discussing alternatives and options
  • Identifying your primary need and your next steps
  • Business start-up and growth
  • Developing or updating your business plan
  • Information about programs, sources of funding and services for research and development
  • Identifying the gains and risks of exporting and linking to export markets
  • Assistance with human resource issues, and/or
  • Partnering with other businesses within the region.

This program is designed to deliver a continuum of business programs and related services to help technology entrepreneurs and SME’s move from innovation to commercialization. Components are designed to feed into and support each other. The Venture Acceleration Program assists company founders with finding qualified mentors (Innovate BC Mentor Program), then with strategizing to solve business challenges (Executives in Residence and Booster Program), with finding funding, then with exchanging best practices with peers (Roundtables).


The Venture Program is delivered through our downtown location and is called the VIATEC Accelerator Program.




The VIATEC EIR Program is made up entirely of entrepreneurs who have significant experience building technology companies in Victoria (Our in-house savants). VIATEC members have the opportunity to present their current business challenges and receive advice from savvy tech veterans who help them to overcome a variety of business challenges.


Companies can present to a panel to seek a wide range of advice from securing investment to opening new markets or expanding product lines.

Emerging tech companies are encouraged to apply.




The Venture Acceleration Program helps technology companies accelerate the process of defining a proven business model for sustained profitability, and to help them effectively grow their business. The Venture Acceleration Program is a “paid-for” structured venture development service designed to guide, coach and grow ambitious early-stage technology entrepreneurs. It is delivered by a team of Executives in Residence (EIRs) and supported by a province-wide network of mentors.


Program Highlights:

Executives In Residence

An EIR takes every client through a well-defined intake process, reviews their individual needs and matches them with appropriate support and expertise. Day to day support and coaching, together with ongoing reviews ensure progress is continually maintained.



Clients have access to a wide range of proven entrepreneurs and specialists with technology industry backgrounds and specific expertise dealing with the varied issues confronting start-up and high growth companies. Clients also have access to regular Business Clinics where our professional partners provide guidance in the areas of Finance, Legal, Human Resources, Marketing, etc.



Clients have access to workshops, seminars and other structured educational programs that provide knowledge, facilitate learning and share information to enhance their entrepreneurial skills and business critical expertise.



The Program provides clients with the critical connections, supportive network and collaboration opportunities that they require. Connections include access to potential investors, partners, sales opportunities and employees – provincially, nationally and internationally.

Start-Up Visa (SUV) Program


VIATEC’s Accelerator Program has been designated as an eligible program for Canada's Start-up Visa (SUV) Program.  This program is specifically for one or more founders or key employees that are interested in building their head office in Victoria, British Columbia by relocating here and participating in the program. This program IS NOT for people simply looking to immigrate to Canada, or for companies looking to setup a division in Victoria. If you are interested in building your company in Victoria, BC, please follow the 2-step application process for access to the program:


Step 1. Entrepreneurs must complete the Online Market Validation Training Program (MVT). The Online MVT is curriculum that has been designed to ensure that start-up entrepreneurs have developed their go-to-market strategy based on customer validation. To enroll, complete your application to the Venture Acceleration Program (VAP) on our website here.


Step 2. Part of completing the Online MVT program is creating a slidedeck called your Company Playbook that you can submit for review. Our program team will review the Playbook, and we may end up having a short meeting with you to discuss elements of the Playbook. When that process has been completed successfully, we will invite you to apply to the VAP using the SUV application. This application will ask for some additional information and will ensure mutual expectations are established with each other for participation in the Start-Up Visa program.

VIATEC’s roundtables provide members with a great opportunity to meet, network, and exchange ideas, information and expertise with peers in a focused environment. Regular attendance is expected to create a group of recognizable and reliable contacts able to share challenges and lessons learned.


Roundtables are also a great way to get the dirt on what other local companies are up to, a convenient source of professional development, and a solid excuse for arriving to work a few minutes late.

Alright, so what exactly is "Tectoria"?


In the same way that New York is referred to as “The Big Apple”, Victoria has come to be known as “Tectoria”. Tectoria is a brand name, created by VIATEC to emphasize the significance of the technology industry in this city.


Technology is Victoria's #1 industry with a $4.06 Billion Annual Revenue, a $5.22 Billion Economic Impact and over 16,775 employees across 995 high-tech companies - and growing!

Combine Technology + Community + Victoria, and the result is… Tectoria!


The original purpose of the Tectoria brand was to help the local population become aware of just how big tech in Victoria really is. The end goal, and what we’re already well on the way to achieving, is to make Technology and Victoria synonymous. 

And that’s Tectoria.

There are three key points about VIATEC that help explain our decision to put together an Investor Summit in Victoria:

  • We love helping our members make valuable connections to people, knowledge and resources
  • We have earned a reputation for throwing mind-altering events
  • We have fun!

Experience Tectoria could be described as a gathering of local entrepreneurs with international investors, though-shapers and advisors - but it is really that and so much more!  Our goal in bringing international investors to Victoria, and in our general outreach efforts, is to introduce people to the amazing things happening in the Victoria tech scene, and the overall awesomeness of this city in general. Once people have a taste of what Victoria has to offer, they can’t help but come back for more!


Event Partnerships

One of the key challenges many member companies face is recruiting top talent to this little island in Canada, and keeping it here. The more Victoria has to offer to employees (and perhaps more importantly, their families), the easier it becomes to attract talent.  

VIATEC’s goal in partnering with a wide variety of events (related to music, food, education, employment and more) is to help Victoria become a bustling hub of fun activity, and to spread the word about all the great things that are going on.
